House of Prayer

Hello everyone, this year is moving so fast. We are in March! Glory to God, I do hope your walk of faith is getting stronger each day.

God is able to make all grace abound to you! Remember it’s all about Him. This week we are looking at Prayer and how important this is to our Journey with God. I see prayer as the very oxygen that keeps your faith life going. In Matthew 21:13- Jesus Christ says that God’s temple (which is the present day you and 1) should be a house of prayer and not a den of thieves. This would also be a series as I am led to write by the Holy Spirit on prayer.

Our God desires that we (His temple) be a house of prayer consecrated to Him alone and not to mammon (money).  Our quiet time with the Father is our deepest form of fellowship with Him. It is in those times, we pour out our hearts to Him; in praise, in worship, in grief, in sorrow, in supplication, in helplessness, name it- prayer is the place for it. Prayer is our constant communication to God and His key communication channel to us. Prayer is also an important pathway to our destinies. It is on the altar of prayer that God guides and directs your footsteps as you develop a deeper relationship with Him, trusting Him to lead you in the way that He has created for you.

Jesus Christ taught us how to pray using the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6 as a layout for approach, however before then Christ was very particular about the posture of our hearts when we come to prayer to our Father. As important as prayer was, more important to the Father was the state of our hearts towards Him in the place of prayer. This week we look at POSTURE when praying

"Whenever you pray, be sincere and not like the pretenders who love the attention they receive while praying before others in the meetings and on street corners. Believe me, they’ve already received in full their reward. 6 But whenever you pray, go into your innermost chamber and be alone with Father God, praying to him in secret. And your Father, who sees all you do, will reward you openly.”

Christ teaches on having a sincere heart when you come to pray. Remember that the Father looks at the heart and not the works! That is key to know that God judges and will judge every motive. Don’t be caught up with fancy ways of prayer, go to God with a heart that says I need you and I want to talk.

I have learnt to tell it all in my place of prayer. The Holy Spirit has taught me how to be entirely honest when I come to the Father in prayer.  I say whatever, however it is on my mind, I just pour it all out and then wait, I don’t hurry off, I wait to hear what He has to say.  If I am upset, I say so, If I am angry and want revenge, I say so, that is being entirely sincere, then I wait to hear Him speak and help me in His way. Most times when I don’t have words, I just sit there with a heart that bleeds and let Him speak to me.

Think of prayer as a conversation with one that is your closest confidante, someone you can tell anything without fear of judgement or shaming. Think of someone you can pour our everything, your wrongs, your ill feelings towards another, your deepest and darkest secrets, that is what prayer should be; telling God all you think and more with a heart that is completely open to Him and His loving guidance.  That is why Christ has pointed out that Prayer is ‘secret chamber’ action. It’s just between you and the Father and no one else.

What is important to God is that you are building a relationship with Him through conversations (Prayers), knowing Him better through His Word, depending on Him for everything. Praying should be as important as oxygen is to you. Talk to God all the time. Have your specific quiet times in the morning (as you wake) and the evening (as you lay down to sleep). King David in Psalms 55:17 says “Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.”
